The Geek Interface Page

Navigation

We use frames for navigation, and usually don't try to duplicate the forward and back buttons on your browser.

Browsers

The Smoke Creek web pages are best viewed with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.2 on a 1024 X 768 or better screen (800 X 600 should be marginally OK). If you use Netscape Navigator or Opera, you shouldn't lose any content, and things will look much the same, but some of our favorite formatting tricks may not work. Things look pretty much the same on Mozilla 1.0 as on IE. Later versions of Netscape aren't too bad, but the site looks horrible on Navigator 4.7. We have nothing but sympathy for commercial developers who must keep the same look and feel across the various browsers and versions of browsers. We've been too lazy to do backfitting for older versions of browsers, so results might be unpredictable if you're not current with one of the above.

Screen Resolution

As we mentioned, the Smoke Creek web pages are best viewed with Microsoft IE 6.2 on a 1024 X 768 screen (800 X 600 should be OK). If you use a lower resolution screen, you'll have to do more scrolling than you want, and things might look a tad ugly.

Tools

We built this page in "raw" HTML, using Lemmy, a vi workalike for Windows. My daughter, Elizabeth Murray, did much of the early work on the Smoke Creek Home, but has major reservations about the direction I've taken it (too bland, especially regarding colors, and not cool enough). I've recently revised and rebuilt much of this site, so maybe she feels better about it now.
